Tournament
For many years the Club has organised and run a "Small-sided" [5-a-side & 6-a-side] tournament over the Whitsun Bank Holiday in which about 120 teams, mainly from across Sussex, participate. It is regarded as one of the best tournaments in the area and we are proud of our achievements in staging this annual event which helps to generate much needed funding for the Club.
We are always looking for sponsors for the event and anyone willing to help the Club would be made most welcome.
2010 Tournament
There will be no tournament in 2010.
2006 Report
The standard of football over the weekend was excellent and there were many examples of fine football being played in all age groups. The weather on Sunday was hot and sunny but by contrast, as last year, wasn't quite so good on the Bank Holiday Monday. Fortunately the rain held off until late in the afternoon and only the finalists had to cope with a couple of heavy showers.
Congratulations to all the tournament winners:
Under 9: Hove Rivervale
Under 10: Hove Rivervale
Under 11: Hove Rivervale
Under 12: Worthing Town Youth
Under 13: Worthing Rebels
Under 14: Pease Pottage Youth
Under 15: *
Under 16: Rustington Otters FC
And thank you to all the other teams who took part in the tournament
Organisation
Thanks to the St John's Ambulance representatives, our sponsors, committee members, managers, coaches and all their families and friends, the parents, the Argus newspaper and the others who contributed to the weekend's events. We welcomed a number of new referees, including two lady officials, this year and were grateful for their help in keeping the matches orderly and on schedule.
And - behind the scenes
A small group of people, ably led by Tournament Secretary (and Otters Club Chairman), Robb Harris, worked very hard to ensure the success of the tournament. Work began on Friday, 2 days before the first teams arrived, and continued until 7.30pm on Monday, when the last of the equipment was packed away. Several worked tirelessly behind the scenes, while others, like those who ran the car park, the refreshment tents or helped with the other many tasks, maintained a more visible presence.
